Bratislava Model United Nations (BratMUN) is an UN simulation annually taking place in Bratislava. Secondary school students from all around the world are given the opportunity to serve as delegates for various countries and develop their skills of diplomacy and argumentation through discussion about issues of global significance.
Opening ceremony
BratMUN starts off with a grand opening ceremony, where the organizers welcome the participants and officially open the conference. Each year, renowned speakers from the spheres of diplomacy and politics hold inspiring speeches in front of the delegates and wish them fruitful discussions in the upcoming debates.
Comittee sessions
Each year, delegates are divided into different UN bodies, with a united goal of reaching a consensus and passing a resolution. In the committees, delegates hold speeches and participate in discussions about various important world issues. Each delegate represents the view of his assigned country and acts upon it while trying to achieve a middle-ground with the other participants.
General Assembly
Once resolutions are passed in the respective committees, a general assembly is held. Here, delegates from standard committees are seated according to their assigned countries and vote upon the resolutions. Speeches are held in favor and against each resolution and delegates are encouraged to pose questions to the speaker. Once all resolutions have been voted upon and hopefully passed, the conference ends with a closing ceremony.
Closing ceremony
During the closing ceremony, top delegates from each committee will be rewarded for their efforts and participation during the debate sessions, by receiving an award, in the form of a diploma. Closing speeches are held by the Secretary-General and a selected school representative. Once the speeches are delivered, the conference is officially drawn to a close.
Party
To celebrate the triumphs of the event a party will take place on the last day. All of the delegates and staff will be able to meet in an unofficial setting and enjoy a program consisting of bands, DJs and expressive dance moves.
It Is Your Free Time
If you want to see any museum, go to some bar, have a glimpse of Slovak nature or just hang out, go for it. Ask the staff or your delegation guide for any info or assistance you may require and we’ll make it happen. All of the activities are of course purely optional, but strongly recommended for the full BratMUN experience.
